You Have a Virus-Brain Hack #3

Have you felt this way recently? You’re overcome with FEAR, you’re ANXIOUS, you have MISTRUST, you’re AFRAID TO RISK, and you’re DISCONNECTED with the world.

Unsolicited Messages

Maybe you’ve had unsolicited messages of doom and gloom keep repeating over and over in your mind. You wonder if you caught another worm virus, (see worm virus here) but this virus is a little different. Panic sets in and you can’t get out of bed. You’re sure something bad is going to happen. You start not trusting anyone, especially someone new. Then you start not even trusting yourself!

You’re afraid to try anything new, thinking you may get hurt, or you’ll fail miserably. You rarely go out except for basic necessities as food and chocolate. You become discouraged and anxious, greeting each day with dread. You’re thinking you can set up your office in your bedroom. Better yet, you don’t even have to get out of bed to do your work. (watch short video on Insomnia below)

Some Solutions

Take out your journal and start writing. It doesn’t have to be pretty. Just write down everything that comes to your mind. First, write what IS true about your situation right now. Your house is warm, you have food to eat…you have a cat. Plan one activity that is different than the norm for you-even saying hello to your neighbor.

Review the WHO and WHAT part of your personal identity (see stolen identity-brain hack) Go over your personal medical and life insurance policies and make sure they’re current. This will at the very least give you peace of mind and remove some of the desperation. Take action if needed.

Start your what if… list. Then continue each item on your list with What now… If you’ve ended your what nows with something bad happening, change it around to something positive. So instead of what if I lose my job…now I’ll lose my house. You can say, what if I lose my job…now I can finally start my own business.

 Use Fear as an Opportunity

Use fear as an opportunity to grow and create good ruts and you’ll overcome the anxiety and discouragement fear brings. Remember, some fear is good fear to push your life in another direction. You’ll be fine.

Also, this is a virus. The best offense is defense in a virtual or physical virus.Keep your mind and body healthy with good habits and thoughts.

I had to apply this recently. Every upcoming engagement I have is so different and I started facing self-doubt as to if I can completely fulfill each one with excellence. In fact, I woke at 3A.M. and started journaling–for an hour! In that little exercise, I poured out my not good enough feelings and exhaustion of pushing a boxcar uphill on the pages of my journal. It was cleansing enough for me to then outline the program for the full theatrical show (God’s Music) that an agent just booked this week in a large theatre. I share this because I need to apply the words I write here too! Those times of self-doubt will reoccur for you as well, and having the tools to face them makes all the difference!
