Spear Phishing

Have you ever felt this way? You face dishonest communication, you’re distracted with guarded emotions and you’re wasting time. Then, you receive numerous suspicious messages that look extremely official with a government-looking seal, such as, your second cousin just got put in jail and needs funds immediately.

What About that Second Cousin?

First, you wonder if you even have a second cousin. Then, the messages all ask for money, or want you to follow a special link to claim your windfall. You really want to click that link, especially as life is not really going the way you planned. The messages also all come with a stern warning not to contact anyone else, even your closest family members.

You are afraid for the second cousin you may have. Plus, you’re afraid to tell anyone, imagining him locked up somewhere in Gitmo. Now brain hack #3 starts happening with the virus of unhealthy fear.

Some Solutions

Be suspicious of any random message that’s outside your main contact base. Some messages that look real are actually imposters. Never click on the email link. Go straight to a website if one is mentioned in the message.

Don’t get distracted, spending time on Facebook or other social media to track down your second cousin. It will do no good. You don’t have a second cousin, or at least one in jail. Do get help with this. In all probability, this is a spear-phishing attack, which is an imposter message that looks real. If you click on any link, realize you may have bigger problems. Get help immediately. (Cyberpro911.com was a great help to me when hacked. Also see book Cybersecurity for Everyone: Securing your home or small business network)

Realize attacks like this take you away from your main purpose in life. They are distractions and can eat up your time and money. Ignore any suspicious message or project that takes away from your main goal in life.

Imposter Messages

Evaluate the messages you are receiving. When life or business isn’t going as well as planned, it is extremely easy to get distracted with a myriad of messages and influences. Panic, even boredom, sets in as you work harder and longer, following rabbit trails to numerous dead ends.

The fact is, in this day of media overload you will continue to receive multiple messages. Those random missives will keep coming at an ever-escalating pace-especially if you pay attention to them. It’s what you do with them that’s important. Stay on task, keep your focus and pay attention to your healthy mindset and focus. It will make all the difference for you achieving your goals and fulfilling your life purpose!
