Are You Ready for Change Points in Your Life?

Most would agree that change points are important to move forward in life and business. However, change is not always comfortable. In fact, change points are seldom comfortable or convenient!

Change brings disruption, rips you out of your comfort zone, can be violent and painful. You vacillate between understanding change is a good and healthy process to wanting to give up completely. It’s easy to lose hope and lose your way as you aspire to reroute your life’s road.

Healthy Change

On the other hand, healthy change can literally change your life for the good! As change is tied to an emotion, to let go of some of the feelings associated with the change will help you move on. Addiction serves as a vivid example of letting go of an emotion.

Even when an addict is free of the addictive substance, the mind senses the emotional trigger of craving the substance or the feel-good feeling the substance provides. Some may experience negative physical side effects of those triggers, such as headaches, nausea or panic attacks.

Triggers

Unless the triggers are challenged and met, the craving will return time and time again. So how does this relate to you and I and change? Charles Duhigg in his book The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business proves in several studies that you can change a habit by replacing that habit with a new, healthy trigger.

When migrating my websites, (Five of them!) I had a purpose behind making the change. I had put off the process for some time because of fear. In the past, my main website was hacked and I wanted to stay in my comfortable, safe zone I had worked very hard to provide. However, I knew I had to make the change to provide the type of products and service to my clients and audiences.

After much study and pursuing a number of options, I made a decision. The process was not easy. It took longer than expected and the technical details of then launching a membership site were extensive. However, I put on my techie nerd hat and started working, hard.

The Results

The result has been a good, healthy change in the direction I see my business going. I have been in a gig economy for a very long time. In a gig economy, you go from gig to gig, from job to job. Even if you have a longer-term contract, as I’ve had with large hotels and even organizations as Disney, there is no guarantee you will have a job, even next week.

Developing residual income, online programs and self-hosted events is the direction I feel the market is leading me. I have worn my techie nerd hat long enough to create quality self-produced video, work with a membership platform that has extensive opportunity for growth, and launch online learning programs. This is not eliminating my appearance at other live events, but it reduces my dependence upon them.

Discovering that I love to create (anyone can see this from the dozens of CD albums on my wall!) was a big part of my process. By combining my skills, passion and where I see the market going, it has given me the energy, strength and courage to make an important change. I wish the same thing for you {!firstname_fix} as you face your change points!
