Have you ever encountered someone who delves into the intricacies of hand analysis to focus on living in alignment? Perhaps you've come across the term "scientific hand analysis" but aren't quite sure what it entails. Like many, I initially associated hand analysis with the mysticism of palm reading often found in fairground booths. However, I discovered that scientific hand analysis, also known as dermatoglyphics, is an entirely different field altogether. My perception shifted after an enlightening interview with Jayne Sanders, a master scientific hand analyst, who provided clarity on this fascinating practice.

Scientific hand analysis involves the study of fingerprint patterns, palm lines, and hand shapes to glean insights into individual traits, behaviors, and potential talents. The depth of understanding it offers intrigued me, prompting me to delve deeper into the subject. What particularly drew me to interview Jayne was her multifaceted background as a passionate horsewoman, deeply invested in riding and owning horses over the years. Her expertise in both scientific hand analysis and equestrian pursuits intrigued me, especially considering how she has seamlessly integrated her love for these magnificent animals with her practice of hand analysis. In this article, we'll explore how Jayne's profound connection with horses, coupled with her expertise in scientific hand analysis, has guided her towards living a life in alignment with finding her purpose and defining her ideal lifestyle.

Defining Dermatoglyphics

Research in dermatoglyphics has primarily focused on genetic factors influencing the formation of fingerprint patterns and their associations with medical conditions such as Down syndrome, schizophrenia, and other developmental disorders. Even though studies exploring links between hand features and brain function are relatively limited, the information is fascinating and reveals the accuracy of what those features hold.

Richard Unger’s research, based on 40 years of research and analysis on more than 15,000 pairs of hands, founded the International Institute of Hand Analysis in order to teach hand analysis as a profession and provide a forum for the exchange of information, ideas, research and support. There is information on everything from fingerprints, ordering a hand reading consultation and even training programs to become a Certified Instructor.

Since I knew very little about this focus of business, I was especially fascinated with the type of business that is mostly advertised by word of mouth and referral. Jayne keeps very busy and has a system she uses to work virtually. But most of all, she has found her own purpose through this work and subsequently has also defined and is living the type of lifestyle she desires.

Living in Alignment with Purpose

There have been occasions where I inadvertently maneuvered my car over a curb or, regrettably, collided with a cement parking lot bumper. These incidents have resulted in my car's alignment being thrown off. Typically, I can discern when something is off, as the car's ride becomes less smooth than usual. However, once I bring it in for realignment, the difference in the car's driving and riding experience is significant.

Similarly, when encountering life changes—whether in mid-career, at halftime, or during any transitional period—it may feel as though our personal alignment is askew, similar to navigating down a street with a wandering vehicle. Establishing a clear purpose serves as the equivalent of ensuring a properly aligned vehicle. It enhances overall smoothness and ease during the journey.

To gain clarity and define our purpose, it is imperative to reflect on our core values. (see appendix in book Stop Circling) These values delve deep into what holds utmost importance in our lives. Whether deciding to run for a political position, donating time to a non-profit or starting a new business, this purpose determine how we’ll make a difference in the world. For me, part of my purpose is focused on family and my relationship with my husband. Looking back over the years, I am grateful to see that prioritizing these values, along with my work, has yielded significant rewards in my relationships. In fact, keeping those priorities steady has given me the freedom to define the type of lifestyle I desire.

Defining Your Ideal Lifestyle

When Jayne found her schedule brimming with scientific hand analysis appointments, leaving little time for her beloved horseback rides, she recognized a crucial absence in her life. Taking action, she made the deliberate choice to scale back on her coaching commitments, prioritizing the opportunity to ride her horses almost every morning. In fact, on the morning of our interview, she had already enjoyed a refreshing ride. By incorporating this essential time for rejuvenation, Jayne found her mind clear and relaxed, ready to tackle the day's challenges with renewed vigor.

This practice of intentional rejuvenation isn't limited to horseback riding; it can be applied to various regular activities. For instance, I have a friend who makes it a priority to play Pickleball most mornings, while others feel compelled to start their day outdoors, cycling through nature's paths. Personally, I find solace in tending to our yard, trimming trees, and harvesting fruit. Engaging in these activities consistently helps restore balance and perspective to my life.
