Demolition of a Pool

Members were asking why the pool at our gym need a fresh start, completely tearing out of all the plaster. From the outside, the pool looked fine. I would smile every time I watched the water-aerobics class bounce and kick their legs, walking by them on my way to my own Saturday morning cycle class. I’d wave most every morning to those who were swimming laps, including 87 year-old Maggie!

There were now large chunks of concrete and tile gathered in heaps at the bottom of the pool. One of the regular lap swimmers wondered why they needed to tear up the whole pool. It seemed to be working just fine!

As one who has gone through the pool demolition process in our home, I was able to add a bit of insight. What looks fine on the outside may hide problems beneath the surface. This was the case with our pool. We were experiencing leaks from various sources and the only way to discover and repair those leaks was to blast the plaster, fixing the drains and piping under the pool. Visible cracks would also be repaired with a solid, new coating.

Resurfacing and Rebuilding

In addition to resurfacing, we decided to add a Jacuzzi. To do so required extra plans, materials, expense and workers. The result was a beautifully crafted area that we currently enjoy.

The same principles of rebuilding a pool applies to creating a fresh start at halftime. Many women at halftime feel stuck or lost; not understanding the crash that is beneath the surface of their emotions. The thought of uncovering and blasting the layer of plaster-coated years is overwhelming. But to understand, repair and regroup what is underneath will produce a fresh start, full of promise.

Uncover True Purpose and Beauty

I have recently been interviewing a diverse group of women, all either entering or going through their own halftime years. Each has a unique story to tell and I feel so fortunate to be able to uncover some of the secrets of their fresh starts.

Elisa, hit by an 18-wheeler going sixty-five miles an hour, with no vehicle surrounding her. She is now living an extremely productive life, even as she describes herself as half-assed! Annie, coming from extreme poverty and abuse, not even having food to eat. Now, always having bowls of food on her counter for any guest who drops by, to remind her how fortunate she is to have food.

Silva, escaping when held at gunpoint, fleeing from Lebanon. Now giving of her time to worthy non-profit causes and simplifying her life so she can write. Those are only a few of the stories. All these women had to chip away at the plaster and uncover their true purpose and beauty at halftime. They are stories that need to be shared if someone will listen.

Sharing Stories

I'm actually having a blast, helping to share those stories. I will admit, it’s been a bucket-load of work to launch the web program and pages to do it in a beautiful and effective way. However, it’s worth it, as part of my life purpose and mission is to encourage other women at halftime--and do it with quality and respect.

Don’t get me wrong—I think more men read my weekly articles than women! They are equally as inspired and have incredible stories too. Men, as well as women, are welcome to sign up to have complete FREE access to the Online Summit for a full two weeks when launched May 14. It will be available for evergreen access (lifetime) for a small fee after that if you wish, but there’s absolutely no obligation or hard-sell.

I look forward to our gym pool at the gym being completed, mainly to see the joy expressed by those in the water aerobic class and swimming laps. I also look forward to hearing of your joy after accessing and watching some amazing interviews of some amazing women! And if you are interested in the LIVE Women at Halftime event, contact me right away. Registration is extremely limited and I don’t want you to miss out on that JOY either!
